A Unique and Enchanting Venue
The Chapel Montville is known for its stunning views and its deep connection to earth and animals. The chapel was the vision of its creator, Rounvenne Geijl, who dedicated it to animals in harmony with Saint Francis of the Franciscan orders. Saint Francis, the patron saint of ecology and animals, inspired the chapel’s design, ensuring it fits seamlessly with the environment and enhances the natural beauty of the surroundings.
The stone structure of the chapel, assembled over nine months using age-old methods of hammer and chisel by skilled stonemasons, adds to its rustic charm and timeless elegance. This dedication to traditional craftsmanship makes The Chapel Montville a unique and enchanting setting for wedding photography.
A Day Filled with Colour and Joy
With great weather on the day, sun and blue skies provided the perfect backdrop for the ceremony. Held inside the chapel, the sunlight flooded through the old-style glass and crystal windows, casting rainbow lights dancing around the chapel walls and floors – a fitting symbol for this same-sex wedding.
The ceremony began with a bang as the flower man galloped in, throwing petals and stealing guests’ phones on his way to greet Jay. This lively entrance set the tone for the rest of the day. Jayden then made his entrance, and the ceremony got down to the serious, heartfelt stuff. After exchanging vows, the couple was honoured with a native Indian smoke ceremony by Jayden’s grandmother, adding a deeply personal touch to their union.
Capturing the Moments
After the ceremony, we took group and family photos, followed by portraits of the couple on the stunning grounds of the chapel. The setting provided a beautiful backdrop, with its large gardens and rustic stonework offering endless opportunities for stunning photos.
On a personal note, I have to say that I love being a same-sex wedding photographer because same-sex weddings are often filled with so much fun and freedom. There are fewer of the confining traditions that are typically employed at heterosexual weddings, resulting in a more relaxed and joyful atmosphere. This “anything goes” attitude was embraced by all, making Jay & Jayden’s wedding an absolute delight to photograph.
