Lyndsay & Andrew | Point Arkwright Wedding
On Saturday Greg and I shot the beautiful, yet emotion charged Point Arkwright Wedding of Lyndsay & Andrew. As with any good album I want to start off with something spectacular, a “wow” from the start if you will. While the perspective of this beautiful image above is becoming more common as drones become more popular, the spectacular nature of it just can’t be overlooked. I also have to admit that I just love that little rush of Dopamine when we get that amazing shot.
Following on from the emotions side of things with this wedding I was conflicted as to whether to share a very personal image of Lyndsay with an image containing some text about her dear departed father but in an understanding of the Law of Precession I decided I would. I have attended many weddings over the years where sadly a family member has passed before the wedding, be it just recently or years earlier. Its incredibly difficult to not have that person by your side to share your journey and its my job to include those loved ones in the story of your day.
Lyndsay’s Dad wasn’t with us in person on her wedding day but he was in spirit. So often I take photos of all those little details of a wedding day without really knowing the true, sentimental value of many of those items.
Lyndsay and her Mum Gill had a framed print with a beautiful message on it and asked me to photograph it to include the memory of her Dad in the hours leading up to her ceremony and that had a profound effect on me. Any professional would always take a beautiful photograph of this print but I felt compelled to do more and shoot something that portrayed a beautiful bride who would give anything to have her Dad by her side if only for that day. Thats a wildly powerful sensibility and feeling to try to portray in a single image and I was going to fight to capture it. Upon hearing the shutter close I just knew Ide gotten the image that could portray that particular moment in time and so I showed Lyndsay & Gill the back of my camera. Although the morning had been filled with laughs, inappropriate comments and bad jokes, right in this moment, having just showed Lyndsay this image I had to turn away quickly so as no one saw the tears welling in my eyes in that moment just as Lyndsay did
We don’t just take photos, we give gifts of memories, emotions and moments in time and I want to thank Lyndsay, Gill and your wonderful Dad for giving me the gift of that experience. It was truely powerful and insightful.
