A Flaxton Gardens Wedding to Remember: Renée & Richard’s Inspiring Celebration

Every now and then, a wedding comes along that holds a little extra weight in the heart – and Renée & Richard’s Flaxton Gardens wedding was one of those special days for me. Not just because of the breathtaking views, the stunning sunset, or the incredible couple – but because this was the third wedding I’ve photographed for the Vitelli family… and the second wedding I’ve had the honour of photographing for Renée herself.

Renée, an organ transplant recipient, is one of the most joy-filled, inspiring people I’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing. Her honesty, laughter, and deep appreciation for life is infectious. So, when I heard she had found her forever person in Richard, I knew I wanted to create something truly memorable – a story told through photographs that would reflect not only the love and fun of the day, but the depth of the journey that brought them here.

A Perfect Start at Altitude on Montville

With flawless weather, our day began at Altitude on Montville, where both Renée and Richard got ready. The venue’s moody interiors, dark walls, and ambient lighting gave us the perfect setting for some bold and creative getting-ready photos. Richard shared the morning with his son and best man, and there was a quiet excitement in the air – a mix of nerves and joy as he prepared to marry the love of his life.

Bridal Elegance and Family Love

Over at the girls’ suite, the vibe was fun and relaxed. Hair and makeup were finishing up, and Renée was all smiles, surrounded by her bridesmaid and her wonderful parents. We captured some gorgeous detail shots of her accessories and dress, then stepped into soft portraiture before letting loose with some playful moments.

One of my favourite images of the day happened before the ceremony – a signature creative portrait of Renée on the grand staircase leading into the accommodation. It was elegant, cinematic, and entirely her.

Her father, Norm, drove her to the ceremony, and during the ride, he shared some beautiful thoughts about his daughter and the day ahead. Those words (and the moment) are now part of their album, adding a deeply personal touch to the story.

A Ceremony Full of Emotion

Held on the terrace at Flaxton Gardens, the ceremony was intimate, heartfelt, and emotional – everything you want a wedding ceremony to be. As Renée and Norm walked down the aisle, Richard’s expression said it all. It was a beautiful moment. Family is everything to the Vitelli clan, so after the ceremony we captured lots of family portraits and candid moments with loved ones – creating lasting memories that will no doubt be treasured for generations.

Sunset, Champagne, and That Award-Winning Photo

With blue skies and a vibrant sunset rolling in, we explored every inch of the venue for bridal party and couples’ portraits. One of the highlights was shooting on the helipad at golden hour – the kind of sunset light that makes you fall in love with photography all over again.

Later that night, under the festoon lights, we popped champagne for one final round of creative portraits… but that’s not where this story ends.

During the reception, we recreated something very close to the family’s heart – a moody, powerful “Vitelli Mafia” photo with all the men of the family. This was the second time I’ve taken this photo for them, and this time it included a framed image of Renée’s late grandfather, who had appeared in the original years ago. The result was a striking, cinematic image that has since gone on to win countless national and international photography awards – and has become one of the most awarded photos of my career.

Each image has been thoughtfully curated to reflect not just the beauty of the setting, but the emotion, energy, and love shared by everyone present.
